Model electrochemical energy storage cells

Simscape™ Battery™ includes Simscape blocks or dynamic models of battery cells and fuel cells. These blocks allow you to emulate the time-based or frequency-based response of your cells for design and verification. Use these blocks as fundamental elements to start building your system-level models such as battery modules, battery packs, or fuel cell stack. By default, these fundamental blocks include the most basic electrical dynamics required for fast-running simulation, but they can also include thermal effects and more complex electrical parameter dependencies.

Equivalent circuit models (ECM) approximate the dynamic behavior of an electrochemical cell, such as the voltage response over time, by using a collection of electrical circuit elements, including resistors, capacitors, and inductors connected in a specific circuit topology. An ECM is an analogy to a real electrochemical system. ECMs have faster simulation times but lower model fidelity and accuracy.

Electrochemical models provide a detailed representation of the physical and chemical processes inside the battery. These models can represent the charge and mass transfer, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics. The models are computationally intensive and are more challenging to parameterize.
