I recently installed Matlab 2015b on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM, running OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite). Opening the Matlab application takes ridiculously long, on the order of a few minutes. Once the GUI is open, typing in the most trivial of commands (e.g. "ls" or "pwd") is incredibly slow, causing Matlab to freeze. During this freezing, a small rotating wheel shows up in the bottom left corner of the Matlab console with a message saying "Processing..."
I had previously been using 2014b without any problems. It might be important to note that this 2015b version is a student version of Matlab that I purchased through my university.
I am not running any other applications concurrently with Matlab. What might be causing this issue?

Would you please illustrate how can I turn off version control? I am not able to find anything about this in preferences?

Take a look at this documentation page. I don't think this process has changed in recent releases, so even though that documentation is for the most recent release it should still work for the last couple releases.
