Problem 2810. Determinant without using det()

Given a square matrix A, compute the determinant of A.

Note that you may not use the built-in MATLAB function det(). This will be checked.

Examples:

    A = 1;
    y = 1;
    A = [1 2; 3 4];
    y = -2;
