Hi im new student in matlab, i try to do this exercise but i dont understand the thing size, the test asking me for a size [1 50] and say is currently [1 99], the code i wrote was:

odds = 1:1:99

What is the definition of odd numbers? Currently your code generates all integers smaller than 100, not just the odd values.

Once you have the definition clearly stated, how can you remove the values that are even? Could you merge the two steps by only generating the odd numbers in the first place?

Yes, the question is to have all odd positive integers smaller than 100. But that is not what you did.

• what makes a number odd?
• what makes a number positive?
• what makes a number an integer?

You must be able to answer these questions before you can try to write Matlab code.

@Rajat: I can't read your mind (or your screen). Try to explain your problem in three steps:

1. What is the exact input?
2. What is the code you have tried?
3. What is the difference between the output you have and what you wanted? (if you have an error you should copy all the red text)

I don't know what "this" is, so if you want help you will have to explain it.

If your English is not good enough to explain your problem, try using a translation tool (like Google Translate). Write short sentences with interpunction to improve the translation quality.

Look i give this code as an input:

And now this program works well for odd output but shows error in even output.

The error written in red words is "Variable evens has an incorrect value"

And the questions are 1. Create a vector of all the odd Positive integers smaller than 100 in increasing order And save it into variable odds

You did not store into a variable named evens or odds as required by the question.

What you do calculate in even is in ascending order, but the program requires that evens is in descending order.

its just simple that, if you want in descending order just type 100:-2:1 which gives results from 100,98,96,....and so on.

if you want in ascending order just type 2:2:100 which gives results from 2,4,6,....and so on

create a vector for all the even positive integers smaller then or equal to 100 in decreasing order and save it into the variable evens

This means that when you do the computation, that you must assign the result to a variable whose name is

evens

and your code does not assign anything to evens

A variable named Even with capital E and no s in the name, is not the same as a variable named evens with lower-case e and s in the name.

You were close. You just need to change one digit from your command to look like this:

odds = [1:2:99]

The '2' in the 2nd position there tells Matlab to skip some numbers, keeping only every 2nd digit.

Since this is a homework question it is generally not a good idea to give complete working solutions. You can keep this answer now as it is, as Andres probably got an email notification with the contents of your answer.

The general consensus is to teach people how to solve their homework with the available tools (Matlab itself (trial and error), the documentation, Google, and their brains). Understanding questions and learning how to solve them is a real skill, it takes time to learn.

Also, the brackets are not needed. The colon operator already returns a vector, you don't need the brackets to make it a vector again. You will also notice mlint is giving you a warning to that effect (the orange squiggle).

I don't see where the original poster said anything about evens, or the order of the evens. But anyway, I think you meant

evens = 2 : 2 : 100; % Create vector of even numbers from 2 : 100, OR...
evens = 100 : -2 : 2; % Create vector of even numbers from 100 to 2 in reverse order.
