Launchpad LAUNCHXL-F28379D serial port not working

With example c28379Dpmsmfocdual_cpu1_ert.slx and a single BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM board, removed 3 jumpers to isolate pwr and gnd from USB side.
Program builds and downloads without errors
Configuring Putty to 115200 baud, N,8,1 to the COMx port associated with the Launchpad USB connection. I get random EESS text. On Launchpad blue and red LEDs are on or flashing very fast.
