Why won't the corresponding .m file update when I update the .fig file?

I made a .fig GUI that originally had 4 pushbuttons. When I created it matlab made the corresponding .m file. I later added static text to the original GUI. How do I make the corresponding .m file update to include callbacks for the added element?

If you do the modification using GUIDE then it will automatically generate all populated callbacks. You might need to go specifically ask to add a callback for that element to get it populated.
