The license file to put on a license server is different than the license file for a stand-alone machine and different than what you would put on a client that needs to talk to the server. Normally the activation process picks up the right version for servers if you ask to install the license server.

After you install the license manager for R2020a and later with your license.lic, you should be able to start network license manager with LMTOOLS.exe. Then it will generate a new license.dat in your MATLAB etc directory (my path is C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2020b\etc\license.dat). And you can use this license.dat instead of license.lic to activate MATLAB.

Flexera Software (FlexNet, flexlm) has a lot of options and so a lot of things can go wrong. The volunteers who answer questions here do not have full information about how your various hosts are configured and you probably do not want the volunteers logging on to your machine to take a look. Besides, most of the volunteers have a lot more experience in programming in MATLAB than in administering network licenses on 7 different versions of OS-X and at least 30 different versions of Linux. For matters such as these it is best to contact Mathworks for free installation support.

Im editing the licence file with this value but doesnt work.

The name to use is one of the names for the host that can be resolved using your local DNS or through /etc/hosts . It is not necessary to use a Fully Qualified Host Name if your DNS has been configured to add the appropriate default domain.
