Is there any way to project certain matrix into the x, y coordinate system?

Hello,

I have a question regarding to image analysis.

Here, I have a image like this black and white image (or matrix).

I=imread(['111.png']);
imshow(I)

My final goal is find a best fit ellipse for the white area.

However, right now, I'm struggling how to find an ellipse equation, x2/a2+y2/b2=1 just in this matrix.

So, when we suppose center of the image as a center of the ellipse, is there any way to convert this image into x, y coordinate system or simpler way to find ellipse equation?
