How can i remove markers from image

Hello i am working on a breast cancer detection system using matlab...i am taking images from DDSM database...the problem is that the images have some markers on the cancer area. can anyone help me hoe to remove these markers...here is the image

I don't know what the markers are. Are they something inside the circled areas? Or is it the color circles themselves? If it's the colored circles themselves, does the database not have the un-annotated original images?

It looks to me like the markers are not removable in the sense of just seeing what is behind them. - You might be able to make all the markers one colour...

If it's the colored outlines, the best you could do is to try to make a mask of the pixels that are the colored outlines/annotation, then try to fill in those pixels with surrounding values like you'd get with a blurred image (conv2 or imfilter) or with roifill. Of course it's not the actual, true data - it's still an artifact, just a perhaps less noticeable one.
