How do you save the figures of a surface plot in some named file so that you can later used the saved figures to put together a movie?

I used the following below, but it does not work.

    for j = 1 : : 1: 1000;
        F (j) = getframe(gcf);      %capture an image
        image(F.cdata);
        colormap(F.colormap);

        j = j+1;

    end
