How can I configure the caret "^" on matlab 2013a?

Which operating system are you using? What language do you have your operating system configured to use (e.g., German? Spanish?).
If you are using OS-X then which keyboard do you have your system configured to use?

The Spanish keyboard is the part that MATLAB is having difficulty dealing with. I do not know how to configure appropriately in Linux.
