Direct Link to public channel does not work anymore

I am having issues with my two channels

https://thingspeak.com/channels/513058

https://thingspeak.com/channels/971602

when I try to view them without being logged in. The channels are public (and have always been that way). I have those links on my desktop and also have them as favourites in my browser. Using any of these will ead to the following behavior

  1. The public view of the channels starts to load
  2. Widgeds etc start to be filled (see attached file Scrennhunter_309.png)
  3. The display view closes after a few seconds and shows the Mathwork/Thingspeak sign on screen with a message box saying "Signed out successfully" (see attached file ScreenHunter_310.png)

In order to circumvent the issue, I have

  • deleted the cache
  • deleted all mathwork cookies
  • deleted all thingspeak cookies

The issue prevails. I have then

  • deleted the cache
  • deleted all cookies

The issue prevails.

I tried

  • Firefox browser Version 78.9.0esr (32-Bit)
  • Internet explorer, newest Version
  • Microsoft Edge, newest Version

The issue prevails

I tried 3 different PCs, each running Windows 10 pro 20H2 (build 19042.928) with all current updates installed

The issue prevails

I tried my Safari browser on my ipad Pro - no issue there!!, neither on my iPhone.

What am I missing? What can/shoud I do?

With best regards vom Germany

I was having this problem on my iPad/Safari. Oddly, it only happens when the VPN is on. Turning off VPN made the problem disappear

This issue has been resolved across all browsers. If you are still experiencing it, please post on this thread with more information about your browser and any specific browser extensions or plugins that may be installed.

The temporally way to view my public channels is opening with chrome in private window .

I (and another person) have exactly the same issue. It works on my Android phone, but not on any browser on the PC. Only if I'm logged in.

Interestingly, just opening the iFrame of a chart works just fine. The full (public) channel doesn't.

See workaround below. When you first open the browser, navigate to https://ThingSpeak.com before you go to the URL of the public channel.

Vinod

I've been able to reproduce the issue.

Here's a simple workaround: First navigate to https://thingspeak.com. Then, navigate to the URL of the public channel. It appears you don't even need to be in the same tab - just that you must have visited https://thingspeak.com before directly going to the channel URL.

I confirm this workaround gets me to public TS channels without the need to log in.

Thanks for the info (albeit I have yet to verify this on my PC(s)). Of course, this is not really a solution, as I have the direct Link to the channel on the desktop of my Wife‘s PC, and that is the way she always uses to access the channel data for her greenhouse.

Volker, this is off-topic, but is there WiFi in your wife's greenhouse? If not, how do you upload data to ThingSpeak? I am interested since I have projects in mind in situations without WiFi and am considering LoRa and GSM.

Vinod
Vinod on 19 Apr 2021 (Edited on 19 Apr 2021)

If you're considering LoRa gateways, ThingSpeak already has an integration that will allow you to get data in with minimal extra coding on your end. See: https://www.mathworks.com/help/thingspeak/write_things_network.html

Good Morning, Martin,

Currently there is an ESP32 contraption using WiFi. But the greenhouse is more or less at the boundary of the WiFi-network in our hozse/garden. Therefore I am currently building a LoRa based weatherstation and rewriting the software. Looking quite good right now

With best regards

I agree. We'll look to put in a fix soon.

Vinod, I now find that I get logged in automatically when I try to view my public channels. Members of the public still cannot see public channels, however.

Vinod

Thanks for the heads up, Martin. We're working on a fix.

Members of the public can actually view the public channel if they first visit https://thingspeak.com before clicking the link to the public channel.

Directly clicking on the URL (before visiting https://thingspeak.com) to the public channel will take them to the login page.

Eaxctly the same behaviour here.... since a few days.

Is the issue tied up with the MATLAB/ThingSpeak new terms and conditions? I was asked recently to sign up to them, which I did, and I think it was since then the problem with accessing ant public channel has arisen.

I've just tried using Edge with an InPrivate window and still get the behaviour as described by Volker. Also with Chrome on my Android phone.

I am finally able to reproduce what you are seeing. In an incognito/private window, directly navigate to the public channel, https://thingspeak.com/channels/1314202, for example.

Here's the interesting part - if you first navigate to https://thingspeak.com and then to the URL of the public channel, for example https://thingspeak.com/channels/1314202, you don't see the problem.

Now that we have reliable reproduction steps, we will investigate and fix this.

I confirm this behaviour... pretty annoying not being able to use the direct links to public channels. Any news regarding a fix to this?

I thought Vinod stated some time ago that a fix for this issue was ready, with it being rolled out 'in two weeks' but cannot find that post. What's the latest news, Vinod?

I can confirm it is resolved across all browsers. If you still experience the issue, please provide details of your browser and version, and details of any browser extensions that may be installed on it.

I confirm issue resolved, working as usual! Thanks!

Our testing process for release is designed to catch as many of these issues as possible, so unfortunately it takes some time. We do intend to release soon, but in general it is not our policy to provide public release dates. We will plan to post on this forum when the release is complete and we have verified the changes. Thank you for your understanding.

That's interesting that you're seeing it on Windows but not on the iPad. Clearly it is something to do with the browser. Can you provide more details if this happens in a private windows/incognito window as well?

Specifically, close all browser windows, then open up a new incognito window and open up the public channel URL directly. Does that not open up your public channel?

Fault confirmed. Accessing public page (https://thingspeak.com/channels/1314202): Page loads, data visualised and displayed then page is replaced (https://thingspeak.com/login?skipSSOCheck=true) and 'Signed out successfully' is displayed.

Fault repeated on two android mobiles via chrome in both standard and incognito modes. Also repeated on Apple MBA running Mint on Chrome and fire fox in both standard and incognito modes.
