eigenvalue in factor analysis

Hi
How do I derive the eigenvalue of the factors when running a factor analysis (using factoran)? Typically this is provided as an output already.

I think you're confusing Factor Analysis (or at least the version of FA that FACTORAN performs) with Principal Component Analysis. See PRINCOMP.

Most tutorials introducing factor analysis discuss inspecting eigenvalues to help determine how many factors to include (example here). MATLAB's implementation seems out of step with SPSS, etc.
