Measuring Image Edge Strength

Hi Guys

I am new to matlab and I am currently doing a project to distinguish between a photo taken by an amateur photographer and a professional photographer.

How do you measure the average edge strength of an image? I sincerely appreciate anyone who is able to help me.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have tried looking into Sobel but I don't really know how to apply it to measure edge strength. Could you please provide a reference code?
