Matlab freezes when execute commands that access sound card

I'm using Matlab in Ubuntu 18.04 linux.
When I execute commands like sound or audiodevinfo Matlab freezes completely and the only way to proceed is shut down the process through bash kill command.
I read that Matlab uses ALSA to speak with sound card. Packages alsa-base, alsa-utils and gstreamer1.0-alsa are installed in the system, and other programs (like VLC or speaker-test) can use the sound card.
Any ideas on what is happenning and how to solve it?
