app designer stuck right after opening

Hello,
I am using MATLAB R2018a on a linux system and am having quite the problem with launching app designer.
When first I tried to open appdesigner (with simply 'appdesigner' in the command window) I got this messages:

after some online search I asked our system guys to install libXScenSaver. after that I typed 'appdesigner' again in the command window.
No error message, window pops up but the display is stuck on the background
