Is there any block for ball valve with rotating ball (not sliding one) in simscape?

Up!
I agree this would be a nice addition to the Hydraulics domain. Most ball valves encountered in the process industry are of the rotating quater-turn type, not sliding.

Hi Mohammad,
While the libraries do not contain valves with direct rotary control, a workaround is to add a PS Gain block with '1 m/rad' Gain in-between a control signal and the S port of an Orifice block.

Unfortunately, this workaround would not capture the true hydrodynamics of a rotary ball valve. It would be nice to follow the same approach that was taken for the Hydraulic gate valve component and model the geometry of the pivoting hollow ball : https://fr.mathworks.com/help/physmod/hydro/ref/gatevalve.html?s_tid=doc_ta

Hi Damien,
I see what you're saying about wanting the valve area to model 2 overlapping circular openings. To model this opening geometry, you could use the 'Tabulated' area parameterization in the Orifice block, and make the Orifice area vector match the curve described in https://fr.mathworks.com/help/physmod/hydro/ref/gatevalve.html?s_tid=doc_ta.
Which Fluid domain are you using? I'm happy to hear more about any other requirements for your use-case.
Regards,
Jocie
