How to find aspect ratio of small blob?

Hello,
I have several images of fuel particles burning in a furnace and i want to find their aspect ratio. i can remove the background image and convert it to grayimage but i cannot exactly pinpoint the blob to find its aspect ratio. Can anyone help me in that? Thanks 136.tiff
