How to stop simulation in a GUI?

How can I stop a guide gui in the middle of a simulation/ in different modes... . I'd like to have a menu option, which when selected, all simulations/ changes would stop and the gui would back to it's original status (when it was just executed) or it would close down. P.S. eventually I want to make an executable file out my gui (if that makes a difference)
thanks

If you want the gui to close, just call its CloseRequestFcn.

I have a iterative simulation that stops at every couple of steps to a dialog, I just want to give users the option to terminate the simulation & go back to the original gui figure in clean & original condition.

So keep a structure of what the gui contains when it is in its original condition, then if they hit a button, run a for-loop over the structure and reset everything to its original...
