How can reactive Power of synchronous generator be adjusted ?

I develop a Power system having a Synchronous generator and a Utility Grid. At point of common coupling point RLC load is connected. The load and generator have same power ratings. After simulation the synchronous generator supply most of the active and reactive power to load while Grid contribute a little. However, when i increase the load, grid supply the increased active power load but it do not supply increased reactive power. What can i do, so that grid should also provide increased reactive power like it provide increased active power. Can we limit the reactive power of synchronous generator so that it do not provide increased reactive power?
