Delineate the surface water from satellite image and estimate the volume of the water

Hi all,

I am trying to extract the surface water boundary and convert it to water volume. I found a code within this study http://ethesis.nitrkl.ac.in/7443/1/2015_Delineation_Anand.pdf but there are two issues. How can the code run on multiple surface water body maps ( I am using the Dartmouth Flood Observatory (GFP) surface water map)? and the second issue with the water volume, the code wasn't design to estimate water volume estimation.
