How to check the variable in modelworkspace

There is a variable in model's workspace, and I want to check if the variable already declared exists, the result return to a variable in workspace. I try the method evalin from modelworkspace, however this method will return a value in model's workspace and the result can't be used to assign to a variable in base workspace.
