why does F9 key not evaluate in R2017b ?

In previous versions, after highlighting some text in the editor window, hitting F9 would evaluate the expression and print the answer in the command window. Not so in R2017B, it only repeats the text, with no attempt at evaluation.

You can check what F9 is bound to for a shortcut in the preferences of MATLAB. It is possible that the shortcut is not set to the default or that there is another shortcut that is conflicting with the default.

I've checked, and I am using the Windows Default. Under 'Evaluate Selection' I see F9. Under the tools drop down menu, all tools are checked, including Matlab Editor. I have looked through all the shortcuts, and I see no other use for F9. After all that looking, I tried once more using F9 to evaluate a selection, and now it works. I have no idea why it failed to work before. Thanks for your help Jim Brown
I have this same problem, except that mine has automagically fixed itself. I rebooted my machine and restarted MATLAB, without success. Any suggestions? I really miss F9!
I just had the same problem although my Matlab preferences were fine. It turned out another software running in background used F9 as shortcut, too. After disabling that shortcut, Matlab's shortcut worked again.
