Can I run Simulink models using python program?

I am working on a Python based simulation framework.Can I run Simulink models (block diagram) from python externally (no need to load within python program) and extract the results into python to plot results?

Have you seen the MATLAB Engine API for Python?
If you are looking how to invoke Simulink from MATLAB... you can use the sim command sim: Simulink Dynamic System
