How to write a set of points/lines/polygons to a single kml file?

How can I write a set of Points to the same kml file? Can I write a combination of Points and Lines to the same kml file? Every time I call kmlwrite, it overwrites the existing contents in the kml file (which is kind of expected from the function description).
