Does AppDesigner require separate installation for Matlab 2016a?

Hi,
I'm trying to run an app in Matlab 2016a, but get an error:
The specified superclass 'matlab.apps.AppBase' contains a parse error, cannot be found on MATLAB's search path, or is shadowed by another file with the same name.
I also cannot call 'appdesigner' in the command window and get the error:
Undefined function or variable 'appdesigner'.
Does appdesigner require a specific install like a toolbox? I can't find any documentation to suggest it does.
Thanks Kayleigh

App Designer was introduced in release R2016a. You will not be able to use it in either release R2014a or R2014b.
