Matlab config directory .matlab takes 242Mb, is this normal?

On a Linux R2016a install, my ~/.matlab folder takes 242M. The bulk of it seems to be a full copy of Jxbrowser (https://www.teamdev.com/jxbrowser) that for some reason resides in my home folder instead of being part of the Matlab install and shared among users.
Is this normal? Is the per-user Matlab configuration folder supposed to take up that much space? Is there anything I can do to reduce it?

I've raised this question with support in the past to no avail. We have a hackish workaround that uses symlinks to an extracted jxbrowser-linux64 in a central location. It works OK, especially for 4,000+ users.
I see no good reason why the entire jxbrowser needs to be copied to every single user's home directory.
Wow, that makes 1 TB of jxbrowser files only on your system...
I tried one simple symlink for the directory .matlab/R2018b/HtmlPanel/glnxa64/chromium. But this led to the jxbrowser installed in /tmp and loads of messages in the command window. Could you elaborate on your workaraound?
