one person ask me why I am using Matlab instead of Adobe photoshop for image pre- processing(image back ground improvement, filtering)? can anyone give me a good answer why Matlab is better than adobe photoshop? Actually, I never used adobe photoshop so I do not know what to say.

people just don't know photoshop very well it seems ;-p, it can be automated in every imaginable way either via javascript, applescript, it's plugin and extension api (all kinds of programming languages) and well matlab itself (you can download matlab integration from some adobe website)

Automation.

I know that. Automatic technique and more flexible. Any other advantages?

Adobe Photoshop is good for interactive photo-retouching. Like manually altering the way something looks. It's not good for doing things like giving you an area distribution of blobs brighter than a threshold, or giving a distribution of feret diameters. I don't even know if it's possible. I don't even know if it has a programming language built in where you can do things like for loops, etc.
