MathWorks has added new features for the MATLAB (Individual) license to support many of the most common educator use cases currently served by concurrent licenses, such as shared teaching labs and computer classrooms. By deploying MATLAB (Individual) in these shared computer environments, universities enable user access to cloud-based products and features such as online training courses and browser-based MATLAB access. These changes also mark the beginning of a shift away from concurrent licensing for the Campus-Wide License.
Campus-Wide License customers should begin to transition computer labs or teaching classrooms from concurrent licenses to the MATLAB (Individual) license. These use cases are supported by MATLAB (Individual) licensing today for R2023b and newer. MathWorks recommends that universities transition during the downtime between semesters to minimize disruption to users.
Campus-Wide License end users are already accessing MATLAB (Individual) licensing on their personal computers, and so will be familiar with the user experience. Additionally, hundreds of universities with Campus-Wide Licenses already provide MATLAB access using MATLAB (Individual) licensing for all shared/lab computers.
MathWorks recently hosted a webinar providing additional detail for this transition. A recording of the webinar can be viewed here: Transitioning to named user licensing on the Campus-Wide License
Additional documentation can be found here:
At present time, MathWorks will also continue to support Science Gateways, High-Performance Computing Centers, and clusters with a concurrent license.
