Can MATLAB Engine use TextWriter after function has finished?

When making a call to MATLAB using MATLAB Engine with .NET, you can specify RunOptions
public RunOptions(TextWriter output, TextWriter error, int nargout = 1, bool async = false)
Is there a way for MATLAB to keep writing to the output TextWriter even after the first call has returned?
What I would like to be able to do is go into the MATLAB Desktop App and type disp('Hello .NET') and have that use the TextWriter from the previous call. Is this possible?
