Orientation sensor data is not reading in mobile application.

9 views (last 30 days)
When I open the mobile application (Android) and go to the sensors, all other sensors give a live output when they are turned on, but orientation does not give any output at all. Also, if I record data from the sensors, all other data records and uploads to my mathworks account, but the orientation data reads as an empty 0x3 timetable. Why is the mobile app not able to access/read orientation data?

Hi Dallas,
I tried to reproduce the issue on my end and found that the orientation sensor functions correctly with the Android app version 6.3.0. I recommend updating the app or verify that your device is compatible with the orientation sensor. The app collects data using the device sensors so it might be possible that there is an issue with your device. If the problem persists, could you please provide me with your device specifications?

My device is a Samsung galaxy S21. All software is up to date, and I have reinstalled the MATLAB app with the most recent version as of this posting. All other sensors (acceleration, angular velocity, etc.) are functioning as expected, which is what's confusing me because I thought that orientation was a function of the accelerometers like acceleration and velocity are.

Hi Dallas,
I understand that you are trying to note and access the orientation sensor data on Matlab Mobile application in android. However you aren't able to access it.
However, I tried it for my device and it works fine for me.
You can try the following and see if it can fix your problem.
  1. Try updating/reinstalling your Matlab application to the latest from the Play Store.
  2. Try using a different device. I hope you aren't using some virtual Android device, which might not have sensor data for orientation.
  3. If the problem is specific to your device, try updating your phone software to the latest version.
  4. If none of the above works, please reach out to Mathworks Technical support, at the following link. https://www.mathworks.com/support/contact_us.html
Hope it helps.
Thanks
Gyan
