Installed Symbolic Math Toolbox but cannot find \toolbox\s​ymbolic\sy​mbolic path

I've installed the Symbolic Math Toolbox and cannot use its function due to its dependence on maple (example below).

However, following the steps in https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/440286-error-using-sym-solve-and-maplemex, when I remove the maple directory that removes all of my ability to use any syms function. I know that this is because I do not have the \toolbox\symbolic\symbolic path when I use pathtool, and only have the maple/ and maple/util folders. How can I get the actual symbolic path in order to use the toolbox properly? I've uninstalled and reinstalled and the toolbox simply does not use anything else besides Maple, and I do not have the Maple toolbox installed.

I think this is also related to how "symengine" is undefined in my command window, yet many threads say to call it and choose MuPAD.

First, quit matlab.

Second, uninstall Maple. You will find the uninstaller at the top level of the directory that Maple is installed in, with a name similar to "Uninstall Maple 2023"

Thirdly, install MATLAB Symbolic Toolbox. When finished you can start up MATLAB (optional)

Fourth (option) install Maple. This time, do NOT tell it to install anything for MATLAB. It will (probably) prompt you with the name of the MATLAB installation directory: do NOT put anything there.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately even when I uninstalled Maple and reinstalled Symbolic Toolbox, I still get the maple directories back and no /toolbox/symbolics/symbolics directory. I don't think it's connected to any maple app on my local computer. Would you have any more suggestions?

First in MATLAB, command

prefdir

Make note of the directory indicated.

Then, uninstall MATLAB and make sure that the toolbox/maple directory is gone.

Third, rename the directory that showed up in prefdir, to something else.

Fourth, reinstall MATLAB, including the Symbolic Engine.

Fifth, fire up MATLAB again and make sure everything is okay.

If everything is okay, you can consider quiting MATLAB and copying files from the renamed prefdir into the prefdir -- if you had done a fair bit of customization of the MATLAB environment.

Thank you for your help! I didn't need to uninstall MATLAB in the end. I found the symbolics/symbolics directory deep in my finder even though previous searches were unsuccessful and was able to manually add it to the pathtool. Incredibly grateful for your help.
