MATLAB 2023b Fails to start OSX 14.0 (Sonoma)

33 views (last 30 days)
New install of MATLAB (2023b) will not start on Mac (Intel) running Sonom (osx 14.0).
Attempt to start in terminal gives the following error feedback. Appreciate any suggestions. Hardware is 27" iMac (2019, 8-core i9, 40 GB).
matlab -nodesktop
The application cannot be opened for an unexpected reason, error=Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-10810 "kLSUnknownErr: Unexpected internal error" UserInfo={_LSFunction=_LSLaunchWithRunningboard, _LSLine=3057, NSUnderlyingError=0x600000769bf0 {Error Domain=RBSRequestErrorDomain Code=5 "Launch failed." Followup on original post.
I had a lengthy trouble shooting session with TMW tech support. Ultimately succeeded in getting 2023b to startup.
Not clear what solved the problem. We went through deleting all past installs from /Applications folder as well as deleting all preference files ( located in ~/Library/Application/Support/MathWorks/MATLAB ), including from past installs, and deleted all installer .dmg files from ~/Downloads directory.
After all those deletions, performed a fresh install of 2023b and it now works. I have not tested it thoroughly yet. I also have not toggled the new desktop setting that comes with Sonoma (mentioned in other posts), though I do find that feature to be mostly annoying.
We also perfomed fresh install of 2023a, since at first the 2023b fresh install was not working. As FYI, 2023a does work, though it is not listed as vetted by Mathworks for use on OSX 14.0 (Sonoma). After 2023a successrully started, 2023b did then successfully start.
If I experience any further operational issues w/ 2023b, such as frequent crashing that has been mentioend in other posts, I will followup on this entry.

Deleting ~/Library/Application/Support/MathWorks/MATLAB did the trick for me.
