Hello,
Could you please tell me what would be the benefit of using Raw BER (or uncoded BER) in comparison to BER?

Hi Sanju,
I see that you are interested in understanding the benefits of using Raw BER (uncoded BER) compared to traditional BER in the context of LTE (Long-Term Evolution) and 5G cellular networks.
In LTE and 5G networks, sophisticated error correction codes are employed to enhance data transmission reliability and overall system performance.
In these networks, the primary focus typically revolves around assessing system performance using metrics such as Block Error Rate (BLER) or Frame Error Rate (FER). These metrics consider the impact of error correction coding on data integrity.
However, there are situations where it's valuable to examine the behaviour of the physical layer transmission without the influence of error correction coding. Raw BER or Uncoded BER can be a valuable tool for this purpose. It essentially acts as a reference point, offering insights into the inherent characteristics of the physical layer, including channel quality and how modulation schemes perform in the absence of error correction coding. This can be particularly relevant in scenarios where a more detailed analysis of the physical layer's behaviour is needed.
I hope this provides a satisfactory response to your question.
Best regards,
Sankalp
