Hello,
I have read the previous posts but have not been able to solve the problem. The message I get is the following:

Please check if you have a MATLAB_JAVA environment variable.
Note that MATLAB requires Java version 1.8 or higher.

I removed the package statistics and machine learning and it worked. I guess there is some incompatilbility there.

I am running MATLAB 2022b with the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox, on MacOS Monterey. It's not incompatible.

I had this problem and did everything I could to try to figure it out. MATLAB 2022b would not open on Monterey OS. I ended up installin 2023a prerelease and it worked right away :) I think there is a problem within the 2022b files for the Mac.
