How to read a textfile skipping the first column ?

I have a textfile with 40 columns (tab separated). The first column is a string and the rest of them are numbers. I wish to skip reading the first column while reading the file. Example: STRING 40 65432 ... STRING 43 64325 ... STRING 41 64321 ...
