I have a 3D plot saved in a .fig file, and I no longer have the original data. How can I get the data I used to create the plot back?

3D plot you say? First open the .fig file, and select the data you want to get back. Then, just type these three lines in the command window:
zdata = get(gco, 'ZDATA');
ydata = get(gco, 'YDATA');
xdata = get(gco, 'XDATA');
And you'll have all of your data back in those three vectors. gco refers to the data you've selected, so make sure you've selected data in the plot before running those lines.

You can use some of the tools from the FEX, which convert a FIG file to an M-File:
Note, that FIG files are actually MAT files, so you can try use LOAD to read them.
