matlab fft function and its window type

18 views (last 30 days)
Hi.
I'm using the matlab fft function and got curious about what type of window the function employs as default.
I know from previous questions and answers that to use a window, I would have to multiply the window to the data before using fft function.
Well if I don't multiply anything, does it use its default window of any type or maybe it doesn't use any window(rectangular window)?
thanks in advance.

hello
by default the fft is done on the raw data without window , also referred as "rectangular" window.
it's up to you to apply a window to the data before doing the fft

if you are not specifying any window then it uses rectangular window as default
