how to show grid lines?

Dear sir/madam,

I gave the command grid on, but no grid lines were shown on the figure window. Why is it so? What is the right way to get grid lines? Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Do you have anything plotted? There has to be something plotted for the grid to be visible.

plot(1:10);grid on

Do you have specified XTick and YTick? Look at these examples:

plot(1:10)
grid on

and:

plot(1:10)
grid on
set(gca,'XTick',[])
set(gca,'YTick',[])
