Opening slx files as XML

Hi I'm trying to implement various algorithms to manipulate xml files. I wonder if there is a way to open/import slx files as xml files into my program?

I know I can zip a slx file in order to get to the xml files that builds the slx file. I wonder if there is a neater way to get this information?

Or if I can get the same information as a Matlab Struct or Object
