Predicting Thermal Runaway on Lithium Ion Battery under Heating conditions

3 views (last 30 days)
Hi,
I am modelling thermal runaway on Li-Ion Battery pack using Model Overview (https://uk.mathworks.com/help/physmod/simscape/ug/lithium-pack-thermal-runaway.html) as a reference. How do I get the governing equations on this? Any suggestion what sort of paremeters can be edited to get this modified and come up with some useful information will be very much appreciated.
What sort of application would this model (link pasted above!) be suitable?
Thanks.

Hello Dan,
Thank you for your inquiry.
If you open the Battery Thermal Runaway subsystem dialog box, go to the Description tab, and click Source code, you can see the equations used to model the battery system. Please keep in mind that this description is purely thermal. We are not describing the thermal runaway phenomenon from its chemical standpoint. The goal of the example is to illustrate TR propagation as a function of the heat transfer design parameters of the pack. In Calorimeter Data and Cell-to-cell gap you have typical parameters on which thermal runaway propagation behavior depends.
In addition, the example is suitable for temperature sensor location design.
Best regards,
Javier
