it seems if I put double quotation marks before and after my matlab codes, i.e. "a=importdata('data folder/dataFile. txt')", it will work in WinCMD. Anyone can explain?

Running this piece of codes doesn't work:
D:\> matlab -nodesktop -noplash -r a=importdata('data folder/dataFile. txt')
if I run "a=importdata('data folder/dataFile. txt')" in matlab command window, it works.
Why in command line it doesn't work? (no output on the screen)
