Why is my DCAM camera return Device properties settings to default when start command is called?

I am using a Point Grey Dragonfly express camera and I want to have manual control over exposure, shutter, etc. The toolbox is letting me apply the values but, when start is called the images look like the camera is reverting back to auto. Even though Matlab is saying the controls are set to manual when I call getselectedsource(camobj) after the start command. Any ideas how I can fix this?
