The Digital Drive – FMI Customer Models

Daniel Janning, Danfoss Drives

Danfoss Drives (DDS) develops variable speed drives for multiple applications covering a broad spectrum of industry segments. Among customers there is an increasing demand for system simulation models to benefit from Model-Based Design advantages. As simulation tools differ depending on industrial sector and application, DDS starts to provide a standard Digital Drive model to be used in various tool environments. The Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) is utilized as it is industry standard for sharing models.

DDS is using a Model-Based Design toolchain to generate production code from MATLAB® and Simulink® models. To use the same base asset for customer models, this toolchain is enabled to automatically generate Functional Mockup Unit (FMU) models.

The presentation shows the journey of creating Digital Drive FMI customer models, starting in application development:

  • Danfoss Drives and the Model-Based Design toolchain
  • The Digital Drive use case
  • Generation of FMI models from MATLAB and Simulink model assets
  • Digital Drive use in third-party simulation tools
