Automated Harvesting Robot Solving Agriculture Problems

Hiroki Hata, AGRIST, Inc.

AGRIST is a Japanese startup company focused on solving agricultural problems with technology. They are focused on making harvesting more efficient and labor-efficient with automated harvesting robots to help solve the declining number of farmers. Using AI identification technology and incorporating localization technology to estimate positions, the current robot hangs and runs on a wire laid in greenhouses where it can harvest from bell pepper and cucumber plants below. Using MathWorks tools connected with ROS, the team performed software development connected to the Robot in the field. This allowed for a very efficient process, replacing an old issue that made it difficult for software debugging in the field.

As part of the MathWorks Startup Program, AGRIST has access to MATLAB at a startup-friendly price and engineering support from MathWorks experts, which enables them to research projects, develop prototypes, and bring their products to production.
