This book covers how to design "smart" devices by means of mechatronics, the team-concept synthesis of several disciplines. It provides systematic and comprehensive information to practicing engineers in industry and to advanced students. It will also serve as a reference book for professionals from the automotive, process, production and aviation industries, robotics, consumer electronics, medicine, manufacturing, and CAD centers. The book is presented in four parts. Part One discusses the core technologies necessary for the design and development of the mechatronic product. Part Two deals with some design approaches, including conceptual design, and relies on the distributed structure of production systems. Within this section is a chapter on computer aided design of automotive control systems using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow. Part Three covers mechatronic product design-related issues. Part Four addresses some mechatronic products application-related issues.
