Truncated Matrix Outputs in Command Window (Beta)

Try the truncated output display for matrices in the Command Window.

Overview

The next evolution of the Command Window is in beta development.

Currently, creating large matrices in the Command Window results in an overflow of data. In this beta, large two-dimensional numeric matrices are truncated by default. You can view the contents of the truncated matrices by clicking the link below the matrix.

For the most up-to-date beta experience, make sure that you are using the latest version of the R2026a release. If you are using the R2026a Prerelease, make sure that you are using R2026a Prerelease Update 1 or a later release. Report feedback and issues directly to the development teams by using the feedback button at the top right of the Command Window or by clicking this link: Survey for Truncated Matrix Outputs in Command Window (Beta).

Note: MathWorks® provides this limited release only for exploratory use and for gathering your feedback on this feature. Do not integrate this feature or this software with other products. Do not use this feature for production or development activities.

Get Started with Truncated Matrix Outputs

To get started, create a numeric matrix in the Command Window. For example, create a 200-by-200 matrix of random numeric values by entering rand(200) in the Command Window.

The Command Window displays the beginning of the first 11 rows of the matrix. To view the contents of a truncated matrix, click the Display all 200 rows and 200 columns link below the matrix.

Known Issues

• Changing the font size, name, and style in the Command Window is not supported and can cause unexpected behaviors when the Truncated Matrix Outputs in Command Window (Beta) add-on is installed and enabled.
• The beta feedback button is sometimes missing. You can provide feedback directly using this link: Survey for Truncated Matrix Outputs in Command Window (Beta).
• The truncated matrix outputs are not screen reader accessible.
