Stator starting of squirrel cage induction motor

Stator starting refers to methods that reduce the starting current and mechanical stress on a squirrel cage induction motor.

You are now following this Submission

Why Use Stator Starting?
  • Direct-on-line (DOL) starting applies full line voltage to the motor, which can result in:
  • Very high inrush current (6–8 times full-load current)
  • High starting torque (2–3 times full-load torque)
  • Mechanical stress and voltage dips
To overcome this, various stator voltage control methods are used.
