MATLAB script that can be used to design and optimize interplanetary trajectories that include a powered gravity assist.
PDF document and a MATLAB script called powered_flyby_snopt that can be used to design and optimize patched-conic interplanetary trajectories that include a single gravity assist with a impulsive maneuver performed at periapsis of the flyby hyperbola. The user specifies the launch, flyby and destination planets, and lower and upper bounds on these calendar dates and the flyby altitude.
The algorithm also requires initial guesses for the launch, flyby and arrival calendar dates. This script searches for a patched-conic gravity-assist trajectory that satisfies the flyby altitude inequality mission constraint and minimizes (1) the sum of launch + flyby delta-v, (2) sum of arrival + flyby delta-v or (3) total impulsive delta-v for the mission. The type of delta-v optimization is specified by the user.
