Ship to ship self-organized network non-line of sight occlusion model is used to predict the elevation angle of the L band radios.
Communication waves propagate through many Fresnel zones, the most important of which is the first Fresnel zone. When an obstacle enters the first Fresnel ellipsoid, it will have an impact on communication. When the blocking area is smaller than the first Fresnel ellipsoid, the shading area reaches 40% of the area, the shading loss can be ignored. When the shading area reaches 50%, the shading loss can reach 6 dB, and the communication distance is cut in half. We show how much we gain by using double antennas to combat this problem.
